Receptive and Expressive Language Skills
What is Receptive and Expressive Language?
Receptive language refers to the ability to comprehend and understand language, while expressive language involves the ability to produce and communicate through language.
If you have any concerns about your child’s expressive or receptive language skills (or both), give Sydney Speech and Munchies a call to discuss your concerns.
Early Language Intervention
Early Language intervention draws upon techniques and strategies that parents/carers can use to encourage their child to use spoken and gestural communication.
A speech pathologist works closely with the parents or caregivers to help them implement these strategies across a variety of contexts in order to support and develop their child’s early language skills.
Language Disorders
Some children are diagnosed with a Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), which affects their ability to understand and use spoken language.
Children with DLD may have difficulty expressing themselves clearly, understanding others, following instructions, and organizing their thoughts. DLD can be diagnosed by a Speech Pathologist.
